Objective:To evaluate efficacy of postorbital tumors treated with lateral incision combined with limbal conjunctiva incision orbitotomy.Methods:17 patients with postorbital tumors were included. Orbitotomy incision was lateral combined with limbal conjunctiva incision. Lateral orbitotomy was performed by standard lateral orbitotomy or by modified "S" incision below eyebrow. Limbal conjunctiva incision was performed by medial semi-circle incision, three quarters medial incision and one-circle incision. Results:All surgeries were performed with satisfied visual field. All of the tumors were removed completely except 2 venous hemangioma cases were partial removed. Visual acuity of 6 cases was improved two lines or more and 3 cases decreased two lines.3 cases with optic nerve sheath meningioma lost their vision because of the optic nerve excised during surgery. Visual acuity of 5 cases remained no change. Some extent ptosis and restricted eye movement occurred in 16 cases. The symptoms disappeared 6 months post-operatively.1 case with permanent ptosis was cured with blepharoptosis surgery 6 months post-operatively. Eye depression occurred in 15 cases. Follow-up and radiotherapy or chemotherapy was decided according to the tumor pathology results.1 case mixed tumor of lacrimal gland reoccurred 2 years later. Conclusion:The surgical excision of postorbital tumors with lateral incision combined with limbal conjunctiva incision orbitotomy can provide with satisfied visual field. The surgery complications were decreased and the appearance after surgery was excellent.
