Pinellia ternata Breit is perennial herbaceous vegetation of Araceae Pinellia. It is noxious, warm in nature, acrid in taste and one of the well known traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, the wild resource of PineUia ternata Breit has been using up due to overdigging and deterioration of ecological environment. Lodging is a way of diapause by which it resists adversity to survive, but in production it is reduced. It is very important to gain high yield that the measure is taken to delay or reduce lodging.In the present, the mechanism of lodging of Pinellia ternata Breit is not still clear, and it is generally believed that the lodging is caused by high-temperature. We find that the tuber age affects lodging of Pinellia ternata Breit besides environment. To settle the yield instability ten propogation material of different age is selected to study the effect of age on growth stage of Pinellia ternata Breit.The main results are as following:1. There is no significant difference among the phase of sprouting of perenniual tuber, biennial tuber, annual tuber, annual bulblets and biennial bulblets derived from culture tissue, the phase of sprouting of the general tuber is 4-12 days later, cutivated seedlings is the latest.2. The bulbils, in large numbers, great in size, from perenniual tuber, biennial tuber, biennial bulblets derived from culture tissue and general perenniual tuber sprout early, but in small numbers, little in size, from plantlet in vitro culture. Floral axises of all the tubers can develop, except for the propogation material of annual tuber derived from culture tissue, bulbils, vitroplant, and general annual tuber.3. Only once lodge in the lifetime of annual tuber, vitroplant and general bulblets, all seedlings lodge except for them in the last ten-day of May. With the shoots springing up, the old plant of annual tuber and annual bulblets of PineUia ternata Breit lodge, the others lodge more or less from the end of July to the end of August, among them the rate of lodging of cultivated seedlings is over 90 percent. By tile end of November all the plant lodge.4. The age of tuber older, the effective stage of Pinellia ternata Breit shorter.5. The age of tuber older, the yield gain and the rate of yield gain lower. In the yield gain and the rate of yield gain annual tuber derived from culture tissue is the highest, else the rate of yield gain is very significant higher than the others, also yield gain is also significant higher than all general tuber of Pinellia ternata Breit. Moreover, of the same age of tuber, the tuber derived from culture tissue is better than the general tuber.6. The tuber age higher, the chlorophyll content of Pinellia ternata Breit lower in the period of lodge, but the MDA content is higher, In the propogation material derived from culture tissute, the chlorophyll content of annual tuber, else is significant higher than the other five material. The MDA content is lowest, else is very significant lower than perenniual tuber, biennial tuber, biennial bulblets and vitroplant. In general material, the chlorophyll content of annual tuber is significant higher than others which exclude bulblets.7. The tuber age higher, the root activity of Pinellia ternata Breit higher in the period of lodge.8. In the propogation material derived from culture tissue, There is no significant difference in SOD activity of different age of Pinellia ternata Breit, except that perenniual tuber is the lowest. Annual tuber is the highest in activity of POD and CAT, leaf POD activity of it is very significant higher than that of perenniual tuber, biennial tuber, biennial bulblets and vitroplant, and then significant higher than perenniual tuber and biennial tuber in CAT activity. In general tuber, the zymogram of leaf SOD and POD of annual tuber and bulblets is very significant higher than perenniual tuber, with the zymogram of leaf SOD, POD and CAT of them is the highest.9. Different age of PineUia ternata Breit affected the total alkaloids very significant. The total alkaloids content of biennial bulblets is significant higher than perenniual tuber derived from culture tissue, there are no significant in total alkaloids content of different age of PineUia ternata Breit. The same to general tuber, moreover, the total alkaloids contnt in propogation material derived from culture tissue is significant higher than general material.10. ConclusionJudging from the above results, with advantage of early sprouting, the fewest times of lodging, yield gain of biennial tuber and the rate of yield gain of tuber, annual aseptic tuber derived from culture tissue and annual bulblets that aseptic bulblers breeded for one year of Pinellia ternata Breit should be used as cultivated strains. Biennial bulblets should be used as Chinese material madica. Perenniual tuber derived from culture tissue and general one are not good for cultivated strains and Chinese material madica.
