Simian parainfluenza virus 5 (SV5) exists widely in monkeys in Asia and Africa. Epidemiological surveys showed more than 70% positive infection among monkeys in Southeast Asia. At present, the quality control on primate laboratory animals in our country has improved and the bio-products that rely mainly on cells, tissues, and organs from animals have increased. Host animals, especially the primate animals, are infected with the viral pathogens, which poses a threat to human. However, there are no any reports about the SV5 infection among primate animals in China so far, and also lacking the etiological and serological methods used to diagnose SV5 infection. From what have been discussed above, for the first time, we carried on the etiological and serological researches, the studies on the experimental infection and immunization of the virus. We also tried to isolate the SV5 from the monkeys in China. Meanwhile, we established the etiological and serological methods to detect the viral infection. Moreover, we used the two methods to carry out the etiological and serological investigation of the actual situation about the primate laboratory animals' infection with SV5 in China. Through etiological research, we have understand the biological characteristics of SV5 cultivated in different cell lines,...
