Effect of Adding Alfalfa Meal and Fat to the Diet of Sows on Their Reproductive Capability and Mechanism Abstract In this experiment, a single-factor and randomized block design was used comprising of 20 sows and 160 sucking piglets to study the effect of adding alfalfa meal and fat to the diet of sows on their reproductive performance. The results are as follows: 1 .The birth weight, daily gain and weaning weight of the piglets were highly significantly improved (P<0.01) which were born of the sows eating diet with adding of alfalfa meal and fat. This was because the blood urea nitrogen content of these sows was significantly lower and the triglycerides, cholesterol and creatinine contents of the blood of the sows were significantly improved (P<0.0 1). The physiological and biochemical parameters of milk of the sows fed diet containing alfalfa meal and fat milk protein%, milk fat%, and lactose% significai ty higher than those fed no alf~lfa meal and fat (PKO.0 I). 2. In this experiment, it was proved that the cost of production would be reduced and the economic performance would be impio ed tien the dddition of 1.6% of fat and 8% alfalfa meal of the sows fed alfalfa meal to the diet dry matter. 3. In this experiment the addition of 1.6% of fat and 6%?% alfalfa meal of the sows fed alfalfa meal to the diet dry matter proved to be the best. 4. The mechanism of the changes of blood and milk parameters of the sows fed alfalfa meal and fat as well as the mechanism of the interaction of the alfalfa meal with other nutrients need further study.
