At present, the design process mostly adopted by CAD and CAE system platform development between interface:based on the parallel design of AutoCAD and Patran, complete project design and detailed design. Then recreate the corresponding 3D model in ship design system of Tribon. This kind of design process, which playing a very important role in the overall design of ship, but the model between each system to create independent, which would result in resource waste and difficulty on guaranteeing data consistency of product model in its lifecycle. As to reduce the design cycle, improve the market competitiveness of the bottleneck.In order to improve these defects, a new design process was proposed, Tribon system was moved to the initial design phase, to achieve the objective of data sharing between Tribon and Patran systems.According to this design concept, Firstly, the research on data extraction in Tribon system is the groundwork of data sharing between systems, and the precondition of mesh generation on panels in next step; Secondly, considering the characteristics and requirements of ship panel finite element mesh generation, a developed algorithm based on paving technology was presented which is proved to be an effective method to solve the quadrilateral mesh auto-generation in the new design process,providing technical support to shorten design cycle; Finally, throuth the PCL language to Patran software secondly development, implementation of the finite element model data automatically imported into Patran database, reducing the modeling cycle.In this paper, it studies and realizes the objective of the model data sharing between Tribon model (CAD) and Patran model (CAE) systems. With the new design process, it will reduce the time of modeling and analysising of ship panel in Patran and shorten design cycle of ship, and ship production design company providing strong technical support.
