Frozen soil is a kind of composite materials, which is composed of soil p-articles, ice, unfrozen water and gas etc. The existence of ice make the mech-anical properties of frozen soil are very different from the common soil. Ther-efore, the mechanical properties of frozen soil are complicated which are infl--uenced by the temperature, water and pressure etc. due to the phase transition of water and ice. The physical and mechanical properties of the whole frozen soil are affected by the each component when their types and process change.Research on the coupling mechanism of water, heat and stress in the proc-ess of soil freezing and thawing is the key to solve engineering problems an-d to prevention of frost damage. Analyzing the interactions among water, ice, temperature and stress in the process of saturated soil freezing and thawing, a-nd establishing the basic equation of water, the basic equation of heat and the coupled model with water and heat. Through the numerical simulations to the coupled action of water, heat and stress of the roadbed, to make the evaluatio-n and prediction, and compared with the measured data, and in good agreeme-nt with the real. This work which was mentioned above accumulated experience and gave a useful exploration for further study within the coupled action of water, heat a-nd stress in the frozen soil, and also gave a new idea to forecast and preven-t the freezing disasters in cold regions.
