With the development of water conservancy engineering and the construction of large-scale hydropower stations in China,the force on the gate slot is growing.When designing sluice pier,besides checking the bearing capacity of partial press,the shear capacity on sloping section in stageâ…¡concrete for gate slots should be checked if the force on separate gate slot along the height direction exceeds 2000kN/m according to Design code for hydraulic concrete structures(SL191-2008).However,the calculation method of shear capacity is not provide,which makes the designing of practical engineering absence of grounds.Based on the results of the experiment,the failure modes and bearing capacity on sloping section of gate slot were studied in linear load under different loading method in the paper,and the plastic limit analysis is used to study shear bearing capacity,and then shear bearing capacity was simulated and analyzed using FEA software,a proposed shear bearing capacity calculation formula was established considering the influence of width of the rail.(1) Mechanical behavior on inclined section of 12 concrete specimens under strain was studied by simulating principle of work of gate slot which members are a monolithic building reinforced concrete specimen,a stage pouring plain concrete specimen and 10 stage pouring reinforced concrete specimens.The experimental results indicate that all the failure modes of these members containing constructional reinforcement have revealed to be shear failure.(2) Based on the method of plastic limit analysis and parabolic Mohr-Coulomb criterion,the shear bearing capacity calculation formula of gate slot was established, and principal factors of influencing shear bearing capacity ware analyzed,included concrete strength,the width and margins of rail.(3) Finally,the nonlinear finite element numerical simulation for the shear performance of specimens was studied based on finite element software ANSYS. Results indicate that stress distribution of members in numerical analysis is in accord with the analysis of failure mechanism.
