With the rapid development of intelligent building (IB), a much high expectation is made for the fire alarm system (FAS) . The system should discover fire early, eliminate false alarm, reduce costs and can be integrated easily. Behind this background, research work has been carried out on the fire alarm control system of intelligent building (FASIB) .Petri nets are a kind of diagrammatic language, and have strong power of describing and analyzing complicated systems. Through the design of the FAS of the second hospital sick building in Fuzhou, more researches on FASIB are summarized and discussed which include the structure and function, the problems and researches, the installation and design of FAS. A detailed description of the fire alarm information processing and controlling is carried out with Petri nets. Using the transfer of system state to indicate the events of IBFAS, the transfer rules of events and the characteristics of the state change have been analyzed and discussed. The controlling logic and realization way based on the database are proposed. The model of the system has been built with Petri nets.In this paper, Petri nets are applied to the formalized modeling of the IBFAS. An experimental system based on the model with Petri nets is designed. Besides, the alarm control and display function are simulated on the second floor of the second hospital sick building in Fuzhou. The effectiveness of the methods presented in this paper has been verified by the experimental result.
