With the rapid development of the world economy, the demand for a large number of the Earth's fossil resources exploitation and consumption, cause the increasing shortage of natural resources such as oil and coal, and also cause serious environmental pollution. In order to develop the economy better, on the one hand, we should efficiently use the existing energy resources and avoid wasting; on the other hand, we must accelerate the development and construction of new energy to overcome a potential crisis brought about by the serious shortage of mineral resources. As a new type of green renewable energy, solar energy has large reserves, non-polluting, sustainable use, etc.. Therefore, the use of solar energy is receiving increasing attention, and solar photovoltaic technology is the focus of widespread concern. However, the output characteristics of photovoltaic cells have a strong non-linear, and is influenced strongly by the external environment factors. therefore, how to effectively use and improve the efficiency of solar energy conversion, solar energy has become an urgent need to be addressed. In this paper, a photovoltaic power generation system as the object of our study, maximizing the use of solar energy as our main goal, we do the theoretical and experimental research for optimizing the efficiency of a photovoltaic power generation system. Specifically, the main contents of this article can be summarized as follows:First, from the point of view about the world's energy crisis and environmental pollution, we analyze the status and trends of the solar photovoltaic power generation at home and abroad, and show the solar photovoltaic power generation is a new energy to solve the energy crisis and environmental pollution in the new century.Second, as an overview of solar energy photovoltaic power generation system, we systematicly analyze the current solar photovoltaic structure of the main components, classification and application.Third, we present the analysis of solar photovoltaic working principle, the mathematical properties of solar photovoltaic and the main factors impacting on it. We show that the main factor influencing the solar photovoltaic power generation is the sunlight intensity, ambient temperature and load changes. In order to reach the largest limit the use of solar energy, one must track the maximum power point for the output power.Fourth, we give the analysis of the working principle, the role and function of the controller, and then point out that the charge-discharge controller in the photovoltaic power system has a very important role.At last, we analyze the stand-alone photovoltaic maximum power point tracking system theory and the existing tracking algorithm, compare the advantages and disadvantages of these algorithms,and prove that the use of maximum power point tracking technology can increase solar cell output power. The tracking device real-time adjust the output voltage and current of the solar cell, so that the solar cell works at the maximum power point. The measurement system of maximum power point tracking, which can be used to compare the data of the output power in the case of the system with MPPT and without MPPT directly, is constructed. The power gain of the system with MPPT may reach at 10.61% under thisexperimental condition.
