City tunneling will inevitably result in a loss of ground due to soil deformation and displacement into the opening. The tunneling-induced soil movement and deformation may do damage to the pre-existing buildings. With the development of economy and improvement of urbanization level, the bulidings in the surface become more and more dense, the value of the bulidings become higher and higer, the contradiction between the tunnel excavation and the bulidings in the surface is even stand out. Therefore the study on ground surface movement and deformation caused by tunnel excavation, analysis of the effect of ground surface movement and deformation on the bulidings in the surface, evaluate damage degree of the building , puting forward a relevant defense measure have a important significance for ensureing the safety and the normal usage of the buliding. Taking Jiaozhou Bay subsea tunnel for example, the tunnel located at ZK1+180~ZK1+240 on yunnan road and the buliding have been discussed as the following in this paper.(1) There are many methods in predicting the ground surface movement and deformation. This paper calculate the ground surface movement and deformation with software of subsidence prediction based on probability integral method, and analysis it's changing characteristics in detail.(2) The ground surface movement and deformation which be used as initial condition are applied to the buliding according to ANSYS. The damage of the buliding is evaluated according to the value of the stress and strain.(3) Study the defense measure of the buliding caused by tunnel excavation from five respects including the tunnel construction, ground consolidation, anti-deformation of the structure, building strengthening and building design. Ensure the damage is the minimum,realize the coordination of tunnel excavation and building protection in the surface.(4) Develop the decision-making System for damage evaluation and denfence of the building using the secondary development function of VB based on ArcGIS. Compilation professional data management model, damage evaluation model of the buliding, decision-making of defense. The development of the system enrich the functions of GIS, realize the modularization of the program and the visualization of the damage evaluation and decision-making denfence in the area of tunnel excavation.
