Muzzle brake is an important muzzle device which can decrease the recoil energy and then reduce the recoil force. However, it can also increase the overpressure of blast wave in the direction of the gunners.How to reduce the overpressure of blast wave is one of the most important technology for the development of muzzle brake.At first,the 3D model of muzzle regardless of pill and initial field was set up.The near area was meshed with structured grids and the far area was meshed with unstructured grids.Then the muzzle unsteady flow field was simulated by finite volume method in the circumstances of considering viscidity and regardless of viscidity.Laws of muzzle flow field was discovered.A new type muzzle brake was designed.Two 3D muzzle flow field model with this muzzle brake and a muzzle brake like conventional impact type were set up.And two unsteady model were simulated by finite volume method in the circumstances of considering viscidity.The efficiencies of two muzzle and the overpressure of blast wave on designated point was gained. It draws a conclusion that the new muzzle brake can reduce the overpressure of blast wave with no decrease on efficiency.
