High speed digital collecting and transmission problems are increasing in civil and military fields today, which catalyses the development of a new type of four-innerconductor connector, i.e. Quadrax, specialized in connecting high speed differential transporting lines. Quadrax has a bright future in wide range of areas, because of its strong abilities of crosstalk-suppressing and interference-resisting; it also saves space, and is able to adapt bad environments. Few companies in the world have the ability to produce it, and there are nearly no domestic corporations researching and producing this type of connector. So the empoldering of Quadrax are of great importance and instancy for our country's military and civil aviation programs.The goals of Quadrax designing include matching the transmission lines in impedance, reducing signal attenuation, high crosstalk suppression, which need researching its impedance calculation first. And then the simulated modal and system must be established, so as to adjust and optimize the connector.In this article, which is based on the cooperation project between Sine Co. and a factory, an ideal simplified modal of Quadrax is put forward first, and its feasibility is demonstrated afterwards. Secondly, the characteristic impedance computing of Quadrax based on electromagnetic and numerical method is studied respectively. And the two approaches are used to calculate the impedance of the simplified modal of Quadrax under different parameters. The calculation results are compared with the ones of HFSS simulation, to show that the three results are close to one another, so as to demonstrate the validity of the two approaches. Finally, a HFSS simulating modal of Quadrax based on a product of a foreign company is established, and the simulation results are compared with the technical parameters of the connector product, to attest the feasibility of the modal.
