In this paper, the history of pulsed power technology was outlined. An overview of compact Marx generator research was presented and the special position of compact Marx generator in pulsed power was pointed out. The keystone of this paper is the technical research from the theory, design and test.In the aspect of theory, the principles of compact inductor isolated fast rise-time Marx generator has been introduced which include how to achieve fast rise-time, the choice of the isolated inductors and the tray capacitors. The technology of repetition pulsed power system has also been involved. In the aspect of design, the structure of Marx generator was deduced. The important part is the parameters of circuit parts from the structure. Two circuit models include a simple model and a comprehensive model were based to simulate the Marx generator's discharge process. In the aspect of experiments, a singal run experiment of Marx generator was conducted whose purpose is checking up the parameters of the Marx generator. The short circuit tests indicates the erect inductor of the device is 162nH. But the expert cable has a large inductor about 380nH which reduce the performance of the Marx generator consumedly. When charged to 19.2KV, we can get a 145KV minus pulse signal which has a 39ns rise-time on a 26 ohm water resistance load. In addition, low impedance load need high peaking capacity that must use high dielectric constant material to form. We must consider how to pressurize the water when we use it as the medium. When we also consider the insulation problem it become difficult and can't be solved. And also we need face same insulation problem when we use high impedance load but it became simple because we don't need consider the hermetic matter. We get a 70KV minus pulse signal which has a 2ns rise-time on a 175 ohm water resistance load when we charge the capacitors to 7.5kV. How to minish the export inductor and the insulation problem of the set are problems that we must consider.
