The accelerator driven sub-critical system (ADS) combines a high power accelerator and a sub-critical core by a spallation target. The high power protons from accelerator are injected onto the spallation target, which is made of liquid lead-bismuth alloy, to produce source neutrons for driving the sub-critical core. ADS can be used to transmute the actinides and some of the long-lived fission products and be used to breed nuclear fuel, on the other hand, it has the inherent safety features. ADS can solve the problems blocking the sustaining development of nuclear energy, so it is necessary to research and design the system.Thermal-hydraulic safety analysis is an important aspect in the R&D of ADS.Because both the spallation target and the coolant of ADS are used the liquid lead-bismuth allay, there are few thermal-hydraulic safety analysis codes that could be used on ADS.This paper proposes to design a new program code for the thermal hydraulic analysis of ADS, on the base of RELAP5 which is a light water reactor transient analysis code.In the present paper, a consistent set of thermophysical properties and empirical correlations in standard geometries of lead-bismuth alloy is provided for the use in safety analysis of the accelerator driven sub-critical system. After analyzing the generate method and the frame of the light water properties tables, the properties tables of lead-bismuth alloy is generated by special program code. All the work of this paper lays a good foundation for the future of designing the thermal hydraulic analysis program code for the accelerator driven sub-critical system.
