Beilun Power Plant Unit # 1 Distributed Control System Optimization

The #1 unit DCS control system of Zhejiang Beilun Power Plant had operated for 15 years, the system equipment obviously got aged, so it was substituted by Westhouse's OVATION system. Although the OVATION control system has the bright characteristic in the technology, and its controller has advanced algorithm, but in actual operation, it needs the further optimization. This paper narrated the new characteristic of the control system, and enumerated some main controller algorithms. At the same time, according to the actual need of the modern electrical power system and the deficiency of the OVATION system (such as, the ability of responding to the AGC load instruction, the unit frequency modulation ability and the communication breakdown between DCS and PLC), we analysed its reason, and made some improvements. The operation practice indicated that the improvements and the optimization to the control system are right and effective.
