Chassis and various structural parts all endure the strong impact when a self-propelledgun shoots. So these parts must be ensured to have enough strength, and they can't breakwhen shooting. In addition, the stiffness of the parts is very important too. The huge impactwhich is brought due to the shoot will cause vibration of the whole equipment. It willinfluence the shooting precision of a self-propelled gun seriously, so, the stiffness of therelated structural parts also becomes an important factor that the engineers focus on.Currently, the finite element method is used to analyze the stiffness and strength ofvarious engineering structure, and ANSYS is very popular as a FEA software. Engineerscan evaluate the design parameters of structural parts and modify them according to theresult given by FEA procedure when designing the parts of a self-propelled gun. This paper is based on the study about the turret of a new type of self-propelled gun. Inthis paper, the finite element model of the turret is created. The study about the static anddynamic property of the turret is completed. According to the stress and strain resultobtained through FEA procedure, optimizing some design parameters can be completedconveniently. The main contents of this paper include:1) The three-dimensional CAD model of the turret is created based on its real size inUG.2) Amend disfigurements of the curves and surfaces on the CAD model in ANSYS,and create the finite element model of the turret.3) Carry out the finite element analysis to the different work conditions of theself-propelled gun in ANSYS. In addition, the force acting on the turret should be appliedcorrectly, and some appropriate boundary conditions should be applied to the model too.According to the stress and strain result obtained through ANSYS, evaluate the designparameters, and find the weak position on the turret.4) Amend the disfigurements of the turret model and strengthen the weak position. Some design parameters need to be optimized.Through the above analysis, the weak position is found. Further, some modificationabout the design parameters of the turret is applied, and the static and dynamic property ofthe turret is improved to some extent.
