The developments of the Aluminum/air fuel cell, air electrode, perovskite type catalyst and the waterproof layer were introduced in thispaper. The perovskite type oxide La0.6Ca0.4CoO3 was prepared by sol-gelmethod. The temperature of calcining dry gel was determined by TGtechnology. The effects of pH value, citric acid dosage on properties ofcatalyst were studied by XRD spectrum analysis and electrochemicaltest. The adsorption property of catalyst was chracterzed by surfaceanalysis. Catalyst content, acetylene black content, PTFE content in theactive layer and the effect of doped catalyst on air electrode were studiedby polarization curve and discharge method. The effects of PTFEcontent, pore former in the waterproof layer on air electrode werestudied by polarization method. The surface structure of the waterprooflayers with different pore former was observed by SEM.The results show that the optimum conditions are: pH value adjust to3.0; the molar ration of citric acid to metal ion is 2.0; calcinationtemperature is 700℃and calcination time is 2h. Once perovskite typecatalyst prepared in that condition was used, the reduction of oxygen canbe effectively promoted and the properties of air electrode can beimproved. The size of catalyst particles is about 10-50μm. The surface analysisresults show that the surface area of catalyst is 15.61m2/g. An enougharea to adsorb oxygen is recognised by the strong adsorption properties ofcatalyst, and the rate of oxygen reduction is raised. The active carbon and acetylene black are used as base material inair electrode. The optimum conditions for air electrode are shown asfollow: 20%PTFE and 25% La0.6Ca0.4CoO3 in active layer, the mass ratioof active carbon to acetylene black is 4:1; The mixed catalysts dopedwith different metal oxides were studied in the air electrode. The resultsshow that the mixed catalysts of 10%La0.6Ca0.4CoO3 dope with10%MnO2, 5%La0.6Ca0.4O3 dope with 20%In2O3 and 20%La0.6Ca0.4O3dope with 10%MnO2 have smaller polarization characteristic and larger discharge current than others. The air electrode with 5%La0.6Ca0.4O3 and20%KMnO4 suits to discharge with small current density. The gas diffusion and waterproof layer with 60%PTFE has smallinner resistance and excellent filming performance. When the mass ratioof (NH4)2C2O4 (water-solvent-based pore former) to base material is 2:1,the high voltage is gotten, the performance of air electrode is best.
