At present, the hybrid structure style, composed of steel frames and concrete core-tube, has been applied widely in China without comprehensive research. So the aseimic capability of hybrid structures is worth studying. This paper does some research on random seismic response of external steel frame and internal concrete tube mixed high-rise buildings, the usual type of hybrid structures. The primary study work is listed as follows.First, the pseudo excitation method, a highly efficient algorithm for random vibration proposed by J.H.Lin etal is employed and is further developed in the present study. Based on the method, a calculating program has been developed for the random vibration analysis of the steel-concrete mixed high-rise buildings. The calculation results come with a good agree- ment with Ansys finite analysis resluts, checking the correctness of this calculating program.Second, a simplified mode of steel-concrete mixed high- rise building under multi dimensional earthquake inputs is put forward and checked. Natural vibration characteristic is analysed with the simplified mode, coming with a good agreement with Ansys finite analysis results. At last, with the Ansys finite element analysis program, the multi dimensional seismic response of the steel-concrete mixed high-rise building is calculated. The results for multi dimensional earthquake inputs are compared with those for single dimensional earthquake input. Some usuful conclusions are obtained for design and application of steel-concrete mixed high-rise buildings in seismic regions.
