Lightning detection and orientation techniques are the most important basement of lightning warning, protection, research and their monitoring. The first job is to detect the voltage, electromagnetism and light radiation of the lightning discharges and its distribution. There're great interest in the field of military, weather, electric, aviation, boulevard and salt field, etc. So these techniques should be developed urgently for the benefit of all the society.An upper lightning detecting theory primary based on optical means are investigated in this thesis. Based on the statistical feature of lightning discharge, a detailed project was given, which calculate the distance of the lightning through the time interval between light and sound signal that continuous acquired by the DAQ card with light pulse as the trigger source, and we combined the GPS information, north-direct function of the electrical compass and the wide angle field of fisheye lens to confirm the horizontal and dimensional angle of the lightning. The hardware design and the software compile are given too. The validate experiment was implemented after that.For the acquisition of physical parameters of the lightning, a scheme based on ADLink DAQ-2010 was designed, which can sample four channels simultaneously up to 2MS/s and the trigger source and trigger mode can selected. The light radiation detection circuit is designed with four magnify order which changed automatic. The acquisition time and frequency of each signal can alter by software and the data will show synchronous.In the dissertation, the lightning orientation calculating model of the system is established. The horizontal orientation of the lightning is decided by the position between compass and fisheye lens. The dimensional orientation is decided by the fisheye lens which should be precisely demarcated. To testify the model we detect sun as the infinite target. The results match well.The system can trigger when the radiation of light changed and accord the changing picture which prove the reliability of the theory.A miniaturized small lightning detection and orientation system was developed. And it can locate the lightning with only one single station with the optical theory, which convenient for the weather bureau to disposal the detection network.
