Torpedo conceptal design is the key section in the whole weapon system, it impacts the whole performance significantly. However, in the real engineering programme presently, the most important problem is lack of enough collaboration and communication among the different sub-systems. Consequently, the result is optimal locally, not globally.In order to solve the problem above, the paper uses Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) for deep research to torpedo conceptual design, and a model system is established with the operational effectiveness considered as the most important optimization target. Then, the operational effectiveness evaluation model of torpedo is formulated with WSEIAC and analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Variables and coupling parameters are analyzed particularly, coupled relations between torpedo sub-systems are solved reasonable and collaboration among them is realized. As a result, it contributes to achieve the system optimization.MDO is used for design complex system and subsystem by explore and utilize the collaboration mechanism sufficiently, is an effective methodology for large scale problems. The paper is aimed at further research in torpedo conceptual design with MDO based on the results before. Summarize the key technics of MDO in allusion to torpedo conceptual design. For typical optimal algorithms like single-level optimization approaches, concurrent subspace optimization (CSSO) and collaboration optimization (CO) are analyzed and compared with there own properties. Combined with requests of the torpedo conceptual design, two kinds of improved collaboration optimization (CO) algorithms are introduced, that is Dynamic slack algorithms and Subspace Approximation Optimization. Then, the basic model, Dynamic slack algorithms and Subspace Approximation Optimization model is founded, these models is also applied to engineering programme and gained better results.
