Intersection is the joint of road network, which plays an important role in road capacity and service. To improve the traffic capacity and reduce parking and delaying in the intersection are the goals of urban road traffic. Mixed traffic, low speed and high density are the main characteristics of urban traffic in China, and also are the main reasons of the lowering traffic capacity and increasing delay of intersection. This paper study capacity of typical intersection and design software, and based on the project of"Research on Signalized Intersection Capacity Data Collection Technology".Firstly, urban traffic control development, the intersections control theory and its method of evaluation are analyzed. Secondly, three methods of computing capacity of signalized intersection are introduced, which are HCM2000 Method, Parking Line Method and method of computing intersection capacity of mixed traffic conditions. The third method is aimed to characteristics of urban traffic in China, and including conflicts between non-motorized vehicles and motorized vehicles, pedestrians and motorized vehicles. Then, mechanisms of every module in the capacity software of mixed traffic at signalized intersection are discussed, the operation conditions and theory models of vehicle in the signalized intersection are analyzed in detail, the general idea, and framework and flowchart of the simulation software are pointed out. These structures the foundation for the simulation software works. According to the practical model, with the Visual Basic programming language, the application software is designed to analyze capacity of typical intersection in the urban road network. Finally, the usages of software are explained in detail, and future works are expected.
