With the rapid development of high grade highway construction in our country, specially extending to the mountain area, soil pressure, deformation and structure calculation problems of culverts under the high-stacked soil have already raised common concern of quarters concerned. How to calculate soil pressure of culverts exactly,and how tocalculate the structure saftely and economicaly ,above problems should be resolved by us. Therefore, their reseach has important actual meaning. The paper relies on western study of ministry of communications, comments and analyzes the calculation theories on the vertical soil pressure of highly filled culvert of domestic and abroad,and carries on a comparison between various formulas calculation results and the actually result of spot measures. The studying of the paper carried a centrifuge scale-down testing about upper filled soil arch action of holls of a highly filled embankment by the instruments of Chang'an university, and got the essential factor of producing arch action which have guiding meaning to future studying on this field. The paper also puts forward the calculation model about interaction of culvert and soil, and carryies a sdudying about structure calculation based on the model. The studying results show that the model is advanced and synthetic.
