High accuracy for the time measuring is required in modern scientific experiment, scanning speeds on the image plane is a reference for the time measurements in high speed rotating mirror camera, and , it changes as the rotating velocity only. The instant velocity of the rotating mirror must be measured precisely in order to analyzing the related physical phenomenon. For reasons mentioned above, considerable interests have been focused on the velocity sensor of high speed camera. For many reasons, in the velocity measurement of the rotating mirror, there are some technical difficulties to abtain high level stability, EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) resistance and the precision, and the related problems have not been solved effectually.Efforts are concentrated on how to improve the performances of the synchronous and velocity sensor of high speed rotating mirror camera, creative ideas in this paper are displayed as follows.(1) High speed rotating mirror camera signal is processed by means of opto-electronic system. The advantages of the opto-electronic system, such as good EMI resistance and fast processing ability, are employed to optimize the design. The rotating mirror's time information are transformed into optical signals at first, and then, electrical signals. The main task in this design is to process the obtained electrical signals, including pulses amplifying, reshaping and intervals measuring between pulses. Then, by means mentioned above, the rotating speed of the mirror can be obtained. The theoretical analysis and experimental results have shown that the timing accuracy is improved dramatically in this method comparing with the former ones.(2) Dynamic range is increased through an amplifier with AGC (Automatic Gain Control) circuit. The output voltage of the detector is proportional to the received optical power. When the camera runs functionally, the optical power coupled into the detector may vary constantly due to the the mechanical vibration. Besides, the optical flux changes as a function of many mechanisms. In this case, an amplifier with AGC or limited output is needed to meet the requirement of wide-ranged output voltages. When the input optical...
