Based on the careful consideration of the basic needs of humanity, the special traveling form of subway, the visual language structure of the signpost design and the relationship between the three, the author observes the subway as her object of the signpost design and points out that the subway is hidden deep underground and this special structure somehow differs with our habit of visual cognizance. The author believes that the right way to design the signpost of subway should find the interacting relationship between the field language and the visual signpost language.The article has three parts: in the first part the author establishes the behavior of subway; in the second part the concepts of hidden "node" and "Beijing loop" are introduced to help analyze the node form of subway and its inner meaning; in the last part the author describes her observation and analysis of the field of subway.I. In the issue of studying signpost of subway, the attention to the structure of the field is the key for one to form the thinking of signpost design and the visual language. A special structure of the field can make people develop special feeling to identify different space information. Thus only by endowing different visual language to different field can one realize the value of the visual signpost design.II. The article covers the historical background, meaning of its form, language structure of field and the presenting of signpost. This exploring study extends the visual signpost design and brings along new possibility to visualize signpost information.III. Visual signpost design is a discipline concerning visual, space, behavior, psychology and humanity. And the key function of visual design in the study of signpost is to dig out the "non-visual information" connected with the signpost.The methods of the article include fieldwork, image analysis and tense comparison.
