WAMS (Wide Area Measurement System) is a new technology and domain developing in recent years. It's the inevitable trend of power system modernization. WAMS includes the PMU (Phase Measurement Unit), communication system and the control system of the EMS and SCADA. Obviously, WAMS needs a high-quality and real-time communication system to support it. The choice and implementation of network technology become a very important and basic part to power system data transmission.This paper studies the analysis and design of communication system in WAMS. First it summarizes WAMS and the communication network system. In chapter 2, the physical equipments of network such as router and exchanger are introduced. The author also expounded some concepts of network performance in this chapter. In chapter 3, the applications of data transmission are categorized. The flow of each operation in the network is calculated. The logical and physical designs are also finished in this chapter. At last, the paper introduces some network technologies such as ATM, SONET, FR (Frame Relay) and Ethernet. With the basis of network analysis and performance objective, the author constructs an evaluating standard and compares the ATM and Ethernet. And these two kinds of technology are applied in different areas of power system communication. |
