Stay cable, which is one of the important components in cable-stayed bridges, is susceptible to environmental excitation because of its small weight, large flexible, low damping, then the various vibration is induced, such as vortex-induced vibration, wake galloping, rain vibration, buffeting as well as parametric-induced vibration etc. In this paper, mechanism and phenomenon of wind-induced vibration and parametric-induced vibration are detailed introduced firstly, as well as characteristic of all kinds of vibration-controlled measures adopted at home and abroad. In view of at present on the solid bridge the high—damping rubber dampers use the press capability of high damping rubber and the material utilization ratio is lower, in this paper , the high damping rubber shearing damper has been put forward . By way of test indoors, testified that this kind of damper had clear role in reducing vibration ,and that the design method is workable. Finally high-damping rubber shearing damper is compared with viscous shearing damper in effect of reducing cable vibration.
