On the base of bi-directional horizontal earthquake ground motion, a series of research about the friction isolation is done. The equation of slipping state and non-slipping state about the friction isolation are set up under bi-directional horizontal earthquake ground motion. As a example of a certain building, the following several contents are done by the finite element analysis program SAP2000:Firstly, isolation performance of the friction isolation is discussed. It shows that the friction isolation system has a good isolation performance under bi-directional horizontal earthquake ground motion.Secondly, compared with the seismic response under one directional horizontal earthquake ground motion, the seismic response under bi-directional horizontal earthquake ground motion is little but it is large than the seismic response under one directional horizontal earthquake ground motion, too. So the calculation can't be neglected under the bi-directional horizontal earthquake ground motion. Moreover, coefficient of friction μ and horizontal stiffness k_b are the main factors of the structural design. According to time history analysis results, by increasing coefficient of friction μ and horizontal stiffness k_b within the specific limits, the sliding displacement can becontrolled, but the seismic response of structure increased at the same time, and some unfavorable influence of structure is brought, too. Finally, some design suggestions of the friction isolation is proposed.
