Servo system including servo motor and servo controller is now widely used in industrial control area in china. There are two way to configure the servo system, one is to purchase the servo motor and servo controller made in the same company abroad, the other is to design the servo motor ourselves and then to purchase the servo controller made in abroad to configure the servo system. The former the servo system can run perfectly in most cases. While the latter, we seldom put enough attention to the conformity between the motor design and servo controller, thus the servo motor can not pull its full play. In this paper, the motor design with respect to the conformity with servo controller is put forward.The merits of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) as servo motor is described firstly. Then according to the rated request of a servo motor different rotor structure of PMSM including surface mounted PMSM(SPMSM)and interior PMSM (IPMSM)are designed in details, and are analysed under the servo controller fully in terms of lag error, torque pulsation and so on. Based on the analyses conducted above, That SPMSM is more apt to the field oriented control is also put forward. Besides mentioned above, the relation between different rated power PMSMs using same stator and rotor section is also studied and a simple mathematical model is established under some hypotheses to constitute a foundation for the further research.At last, the experiments of the prototype are done and these results prove that the former analysis is correct.
