The vector network analyzer (VNA) can precisely describe the property of a device according it's amplitude/phase responses to frequency and power scan of measurement signals. The VNA measures with wild frequency band, high precision and speed. These provide more metrical means for the development of electric instruments, such as measurements for antenna, microwave devices, microwave pulse and photronic properties. For these reasons, it has been wildly used in such field as microwave technique, wireless and photic communication. With the development of microwave network analysis theory and technology, as well as introduction of high-speed microprocessor and modern digital signal processing, modern vector network analyzer has enjoyed underlying changes in its speed, accuracy, convenience and adaptability compared to those in earlier times. The further application of the VNA has attached more importance to researches focusing on precision and speed in measurement. For the VNA, precision and speed in measurement mainly lies in its precision and speed in calibration. The building of calibration system includes construction of error module under different situation, development of calibration methods and realization of calibration system. After researches in the two projects, "The VNA Error Correction Method"and "The VNA Nonstandard-kit Calibration Technique", the author of this dissertation gives in-depth discussions on building of calibration system and related problems. Starting with the measurement structure of the VNA, this dissertation analyses source of errors and their descriptions, introduces the basic theories of error correction. In response to requirements in measurement practices, improvements are made on error module and calibration methods set in current VNA. Formulas of Several improved calibration methods are also presented. Then we build experimental error-correction system to realize the errors-module and calibration methods mentioned above by using automatic measurement techniques. At last, this dissertation presents calibration results and discussions. The 8-errors module introduced here has been validated through experiments performed on 8-errors standard-kit-calibrations. With greatly simplified calculation, the 8-Errors calibration can be more suitable in meeting the demand of real-time situation compared to traditional calibration theories.
