The analysis of equipment fault feature is precondition and foundation that fault diagnosis of equipment is applied. It's important for studying equipment fault feature further to find some objective and exact ways that can extract all kinds of feature of any fault information.Based on some theories and methods of corresponding subject, this article extends the analysis of a mechanical failure, misalignment fault of rotor system coupled by gear coupling, with respect to geometry and dynamics from two dimensions to three dimensions. By means of research, the feature of that mechanical failure is analyzed. Subsequently, this article builds the fuzzy matrix related with symptom and fault.However, owing to those work as stated above, the complicacy and subjectivity of analyzing the fault feature by traditional means is revealed fully so that the following studies in search of other means to extract fault feature begin. Afterward, in accordance with this topic how to analyze and extract any fault feature better, this article, with the research getting along continually, makes a thorough discuss that how to extract fault feature by two means.The extraction of fault feature by way of synthetic applicability. By means of altering original axiomatized definition of fuzzy sets applicability, this article defines a new conception of applicability between two fuzzy sets so as to describes the applicability between two fuzzy sets more comprehensively and properly in the style of generic function. Afterward, by extending the function which can describe the applicability between two fuzzy sets to multidimensional field, the new definition, namely synthetic applicability, can measure the similar degree of whole fuzzy sets which are influenced by many factors. By this means, it can provide a way to extracting the fault feature and building corresponding membership function.The extraction of fault feature by way of multidimensional fuzzy applicability. Basing on defining the conception of multidimensional fuzzy sets, this article reconstructs original axiomatized definition of fuzzy sets applicability, and defines new conceptions of fuzzy applicability between two fuzzy sets and multidimensional fuzzy applicability. In this way, we can describe compositive similar degree of a batch of fault signals so that, in theory, we can solve that question of extraction of fault feature completely. Equivalently, self-learning function is added to simple fuzzy diagnosis system and this article breaks a new path of the application of fuzzy diagnosis. Moreover, it also breaks a new field of engineer research in fuzzy mathematics: multidimensional fuzzy mathematics.
