Wind load is one of the important parts of horizontal force imposed on the structures. Especially for high-rise buildings, super high-rise buildings, tower structures and long span bridges and structures, wind load often acts as the control one in all kinds of loads.First of all, the basic characters of wind are described and discussed in this paper. The mechanism by which wind effects on structures is depicted; the assumptive precondition for wind vibration analysis is illuminated based on hydromechanics. Then, the random structural response formulae are derived respectively in frequency domain and time domain according to random vibration theory. From the analysis process mentioned above, the conclusion is made that analyses from both sides have complementary characters in the random vibration analysis. Then, the principle of the random vibration is extended to the wind-excited vibration analysis; the analysis process for the wind-excited vibration analysis is deduced in frequency domain and time domain.According to the principle of the wind-excited vibration analysis, a downwind-excited vibration analysis of a typical long span structure is carried on through the finite element analysis software. As a result, some parameters of the key points have been got including the power spectrum density (PSD), the response variance, the gust response factor for load and displacement. In conclusion, some characters in wind vibration analysis of long span structures are summed up and some suggestions for wind vibration analysis are put forward.
