In this paper, the performance of a multi-spool axial-flow compressor with a fan during operation with water ingestion is investigated. Besides, the effect on the performance caused by a variety of water drop types and contents is discussed.A model for computing the loss and deviation angle is developed using stage-stacking method on average streamline. With the method, the calculation of arbitrary stage characteristics is carried out.In order to verify the method, a example of a 2-spool,16-stages axial-flow fan/compressor is used for characteristics. And the result from above example indicates the fact that water drop types and contents both have some influence on performance. In addition, humidity should be considered when water exists. The method is useful for the preliminary aerodynamic design, which requires estimation of overall performance of fan/compressor. With water ingestion, the performance of fan/compressor is different from true air flow. The design and off-design point performance are discussed in details in this paper, which indicates that the effects of air-water mixture flow or other arbitrary multi-phases flows should be taken into account for fan/compressor design. The procedure developed in this thesis is a useful tool for aeroengine designer, and is valuable in engineering.
