Active magnetic bearing (AMB) is a high performance, novel type bearing which suspends the rotor by controlled electromagnetic force in a contact-free manner. The AMB has many advantages such as contact-free, no need of lubrication, no wear, low noise, high rotation speed, etc. With the development of AMB's technology, it will be applied widely to such fields as aviation and space flight, vacuum technology, machine tool and tail-wagging engine, energy source and traffic, and so on. The single freedom magnetic system is the base of AMB, so it is essential to study the magnetic ball system. This thesis focuses on the digital control system of the single freedom magnetic ball.Firstly, on the basis of analyzing of magnetic ball system's working principle, the thesis designed digital controller (using c language and Matlab software in computer) and developed a real-time control program with the real-time workshop toolbox of Matlab. When the program was linked to external magnetic ball system through Data Acquisition Card (PCI-1710), we realized the ball's suspension steady. The result of experience has indicated that the digital controller works well and is easy to be debugged. On the whole, the digital controller guarantees the ball's suspension steady.At the same time, In order to realize the steady floating of the rotor extensively, this thesis takes the method of software compensation to enhance the measure range of this sensor, and attains the first goal.
