Handling and stability is one of the important performances of the automobile. It signifies the controllability and resistivity to the external interfere of the automobile, known as "the lifeline of the vehicle at a high speed ". For this reason, the automobile should have good handling and stability. The theoretical research of handling and stability of vehicle relies mainly on research of the vehicle model; using virtual prototyping technology to carry on simulation analysis of the vehicle is widely used in the project. Among them, the theoretical research is the foundation that the project uses.First, it introduced the concept of handling and stability, index and method of the evaluation and the domestic and international research situation of this field in detail. Then, derived the two-freedom-degree vehicle model (yaw movement and lateral displacement) and three-freedom-degree vehicle model (add the rolling movement to the two-freedom-degree modal), after that, using the existed vehicle model, write the Matlab programs and make the simulation the step input of steering wheel, have put forward the improvement method of vehicle's handling and stability . Finally, make a brief introduction on ADAMS.
