This paper primarily studies the delamination and elastomer swelling of compound alcohol fuels. The result of delamination experiment shows that the mutual solubility of alcohol and gasoline is influenced by blend ratio, add-on quantity of booster solvent, temperature and water content. The conclusion of swelling experiment is that elastomer swelling of compound alcohol fuels is stronger than that of gasoline and elastomer swelling is more stronger when more bigger blend ratio. Then, with the premise of no any modification or optimization adjustment on the engine, the paper compares economy property, power property, exhaust emissions property and combustion characteristics when gasoline and compound alcohol fuels are used for CA6102 petrol engine. The results indicate that the economy property and power property of small-proportion compound alcohol engine is approximately equal to that of gasoline engine. But as regards medium-proportion compound alcohol engine, the power property is worse than that of gasoline engine, and the economy property is approximately equal to that of gasoline engine. The inflammation retardation period, combustion continuance period and combustion cyclic variability of compound alcohol fuels is greater than that of gasoline. The heat release regularity is similar in comparing with gasoline. The CO,HC and NOx emissions are lower than that of gasoline. Finally the paper analyses the testing results.
