The swelling capacity test of the expansive soils and that of the expansive soils reinforced by fibers under load are carried out, and their expansion ratios under different water contents, compactness and upper load are calculated and compared. The expansive properties of reinforced soils are analyzed and the mechanism of the fiber used to reinforce the expansive soils is studied. During the swelling capacity test of the reinforced soils under load, three different reinforcement ratio samples are tested in order to reduce their expansion of the soils. Comparing their expansion force counted by liner interpolation, the author puts forward the critical value existing in the reinforcement ratios. In the meantime, the tri-axial shear test of CU on the expansive soils and reinforced soils under different compactness, layers and confinement pressure are finished. It is concluded that the cohesive force of reinforced soils is greater than that of expansive soils, moreover the internal friction of reinforced soils is equal to that of expansive soils. Analyzing the stress-strain curve of the two kinds of soils, and comparing the strength parameters of expansive soils with that of reinforced soils, the author finds the reason that the intension of the reinforced soils gets stronger than that of expansive soils is studied.
