Protection of the occupants is always one of the crux problems in the vehicle passive safety research. Modern vehicles are widely equipped with seat belt and airbag such effective equipment in the industrialized countries in America and Europe. The traffic accident increased dramatically over the last decades in China, and resulted in a huge loss of the social economy, so new cars in the recent years were almost equipped with driver's airbag. But the research on the protection effectiveness of the occupants in the mini-van frontal crash is still unsubstantial, and need to be attached more attention. In order to equip the mini-van with airbag more quickly and precisely on the high demand of the society, the paper investigates the influence of the airbag main parameters on the occupant's injury, the airbag parameters optimization and airbag suitability with the mini-van.1. On the basis of the research and study of the well-adopted research method and fundamental theory, the paper summarized the experience and results obtained in the field of airbag research;2. In the paper the driver and passenger's finite element airbag model and multi-body mini-van cab model were established, and law of the injury parameters of occupants due to the airbag main parameters variation were obtained. The model was validated against the test results and optimized with the permutation and combination of the airbag main parameters3. The paper analyzed and discussed the distinct problem existing in the simulation, and points out that for the further research the attention should be pay to the analysis of the conditions such as different occupant size, different crash intensity and whether or not wearing seat belt and so on.The research indicated that the airbag volume, vent hole size and gas generate mass flow rate exert dominant influence on the protection effectiveness of the occupants. The paper pointed out that small airbag volume, small vent hole size and low gas generate mass flow will provide the occupants with best protection in the mini-van frontal crash.The research in the paper was based on the equipment of airbag in the mini-van. In china, there are a large number of mini-van, which possess several evident characteristics such as small occupant' s living space, little energy absorbing parts and bad crashworthiness, so the research carried out in the paper would offer a huge social benefit and economical benefit as well, furthermore the results obtained in the paper bear important theoretical significance.
