As an application research for the electrical control techniques applied in large-size container cranes, this article has studied the involved theoretical issues and given deep investigations with the support of practical examples to explore the feasibility of these theories which may be used in engineering field. Therefore, this article is good guidance for improving the research and development level of electrical control techniques in China's port machinery field. It may also help Chinese port machinery industry to increase their competitiveness, and to breed more key techniques which have their own intellectual properties.In recent years, along with the improvement of worldwide industry, autocontrol field also made a great progress, and thus promoted the development of electrical control techniques in container cranes. Our national port machinery industry has put great efforts to research and develop container crane electrical control techniques, and got achievements which are embodied in quantity. But the nuclear techniques of electrical control, the most valuable part, are still controlled by some developed countries. For this reason, this article tries to explore, in the aspects of theoretical research and practical application of large-size container crane electrical control technology, how to adopt international advanced autocontrol technology on our current industry level to further decrease the technology gap between developed country and us, and to breed morekey techniques which have their own intellectual properties.The questions need to be answered in this article include:(1). How to apply frequency control techniques and speed adjustment techniques onto container cranes?(2). How to implement on-vehicle management and the remote supervisory?(3). How to implement fault detection on container cranes?The first chapter of this article mainly describes the research background, the status of current container crane electrical control system's research andapplication in domestic and abroad, the aim of this article and the thinking and research methods. It also overviewed correlative information of large-size container crane's electrical control system. The second chapter of this article introduces the basic condition of container crane's electrical control system. It mainly include theory introduction and development status of container crane's electrical control speed adjustment system, technical advantages of full frequency control speed adjustment system, and the usage condition of large-size container crane's electrical control system by our national port machinery industry, represented by Shanghai Port Machinery Plant. The third chapter of this article introduces the choosing methods of crane electrical transmission schemes, comparison of common used electrical speed adjustment schemes, the application of the frequency control speed adjustment on port machines, etc. the fourth chapter of this article gives an investigation about the principle and implement method of on-vehicle and remote management system on large-size container crane. The fifth chapter of this article mainly concludes PLC control theory and application functions on large-size container crane. It emphasizes on development of CT drive of ProfiBus and GE 90-30 PLC communication software, and draw a conclusion that using site bus can make the relation between PLC and drives more close and can expediently exchange huge amount of data between them, therefore make it possible to realize epistatic control. The sixth chapter takes the container crane electrical control system developed by Shanghai Port Machinery Plant for end-user as a example to show concrete implement methods in the aspects of AC frequency control system, communication control system, fault self-detection system and so on. It can say that development of container crane electrical control system by our national port machinery industry itself can be possible and also feasible.
