To design the water cushion of BaiShan Arc Dam ,the design experiment of ErTan Hydraulic Power Station,Xiao Wan Hydraulic Power Station were refereed. Through large amount of scientific experiments and theoretical calculation,and the design coefficients of water cushion in domestic and abroad were summarized,then the design layout of the BaiShan cushion was worked out at last. The main contents are as follows:In order to finish this work well,the author collected the basic parameters of water cushion in china and foreign countries,and analyzed the questions and shortcoming in the designing of cushion in domestic and abroad,and Summarized the design experiment of Xiao Wan Hydraulic Power Station and ErTan Hydraulic Power Station in China,finally the main controlling design parameters of BaiShan water cushion,that is the allow dynamic impact water pressure and unit water consumed energy rate were asserted. By the scale of 1:35 flood-relief model test,combined the structures built and the pump entrance will be built of BaiShan Dam,to decide the overall arrangement of the water cushion. According to the selected project,a stability test with scale of 1:35 of cushion bottom had been done. With the research results of the experiments and the flow shape of Xiao Wan Hydraulic Power Station were thought about,on the other hand,the ternary complex jet shape of BaiShan water cushion was analyzed,all this gave a base for the analysis of the force of the cushion bottom. Through observation,the dynamic water pressure,the fluctuation pressure,the time-homogeneous pressure on the surface of the bottom and the characteristics of the fluctuation pressure could be got,also the calculation method and the test results were compared to get the argument. With thetridimensional finite element method the tridimensional seepage was computed,by the analysis and the computation of tridimensional seepage,the discharge method of the cushion could be asserted,at the same time,the discharge of pump drainage and the up-lift of cushion bottom could be got. According to the results of the satiable modle test and trdimensional seepage computation,the structure arrangement of the cushion bottom could be asserted. To recheck the factors of safety against overturning and float flotation of cushion bottom,the stability computation methods of bottom of the literature,Xiao Wan Hydraulic Power Station and ErTan Hydraulic Power Station were refereed. The experiments and results of the calculation and the analysis provided some empirical methods for cushion design,also through lots of analysis of test,the systematic experiment dates for structure stressing analysis under complex force in cushion were put forward.
