Inelastic static push-over method is becoming a novel methodology for seismic evaluation of structure. It combines the inelastic static analysis with the seismic response spectrum and avoids the time-costing process in nonlinear dynamic analysis. It's been proved by practical engineering abroad to have good accuracy and simplicity. It can save both financial cost and computational time. The study on this method has both the theoretic worthy and engineering worthy. In this article, the application of the push-over method is discussed. Firstly, the basic principle of this method is described. Then the line members with rigid parts and nonlinear bending and shear springs are adopted to model the structure and make the computation model for the push-over method. How to form the more accurate lateral loads used in push-over method is also discussed. The frame structure is simplified to a serial multi-degree-of-freedom system, which is then be used to calculate the earthquake effect ratio and horizontal earthquake load on each story according the response spectrum method. The change of natural frequency and lateral forces of the structure due to plasticity of the structure are taken into account. Finally , several structures are evaluated by the push-over method.
