This paper used the third new generation CSL and CSI series digital line protective device made in hathaway as a clue. Introduced the history and circumstance of the digital protection's development. In the past thirty years, digital protection is very popular in the electric power system and come to replace the usual protective devices gradually , for its hardware's high integration ,resisting interference and software's high intellection ,easy operation and memory. With the execution of synthesis automatic substation , the digital protection's simplicity ,easy operation and netable capabilities will be made to the best advantage .220kv or above Voltage transmission lines usual adopt double protective disposition ; each has its own independent AC and DC system to control different breaker. Both of the protection use high frequency distance or directional protection as main protection , and use distance protection adding current protection as reserving protection. This dispositon assured relay protection's four features : election, sensitivity, instancy and reliability. At the same time , I stated the principle of the protections which used by CSL-100 series protective device.The digital computer protction's reliability, sensitivity and instancy mainly depend on the digital filter and protection algorithm . Except the simple and usual filter and algorithm, some advanced filter ways suchas Frequency sampling filter,Karlman filter and several new algorithms such as Cosine algorithm ,semiwave Fourier algorithm and wavelet transform algorithm are also studied . With the quick development of VLSI(very large-scale integrated) tecknology, the complex advanced filter and algorithm ways will be spreadly applied .CSL-100 series digital protective device is the third generation computerized protection imbibed thousands of WXB(H)-IK 15 series device's almost ten years actual operating experience . This paper studied CSL-100 series device's hardware configuraton traits and some problems which must be paid attention to in the course of software designing , in addition , the new theories such as Autoadjustment and foggy control are also analysed. Therefore , CSL-100 series digital protective device is very advanced not only on its configuration but also on its capability. Seeing from its nearly two years operating condition, 100 series device meet well to the requirement of the electric power system for the relay protection. Now CSL-100 series devices are applied widely in the electric power system . Then, as the exploitation of new types of protection for instance microwave protection and lustrecable protection ,the relay protection will face a wider perspective.Today with the exploitation of the new tecknologies such as DSP ,GPS etc. and with the application of the advanced theories such as Autoadjustment, Wavelet transform etc. the digital computer protection is developing very quickly. In this paper , I presented a new scheme of using DSP to project protection hardware . In fact , the way of using DSP to execute Karlman filter in realizing distance protection has past simulating test ,and acquired satisfying effect.
