Recently, the development of the technology of Integrated Circuit and communication took us a fresh look at the system of Distribution Automation (DA) and raised a overwhelmed impact on it. The system of Distribution Automation can improve the running reliability and the management of power distribution. Modem conception of Distribution Automation (DA) means in four aspects: first of all, it is customization, which exactly means the interface of management is customized for users. Second, it means Feeder Automation. Third, it is transform substation-integrated automation that is the interconnection of transportation and distribution. Last but not the least, it is power distribution management automation. Though, Feeder Automation is the crucial key to improving reliability of power supply, reduce dissipation and heightening quality of distribution. Moreover, Feeder Terminal Unit (FTU) is an essential part in the system of Feeder Automation. Now, the power system Automation is putting into practice. Because of no standard in the conceptions and projects agreed, lots of methods aroused in practicing in the projects of Feeder Automation and functions of FTU required is in the discovery phase. This paper studied lots of references and recent research works and consulted kinds of projects of FA and FTU design, summarized and aroused own definition and comprehension of FA, discussed design frameworks of FTU, the choices of communication protocol, arithmetic and anti-interference in more detail. The equipment of FTU which looks as the important application of electronic system design has been designed by fresh ways. The FTU that discussed in this paper is collaborated with YUYAO high voltage switch plant and put into practice. All in all, author made effort in research work of FTU in the last year.
