The Taklamakan Desert is the lesert in our country and the second ore in the worid. ltcovers 337,000 km~2 with the heature of flowing In recent years, the focus area of oil exploit ismoved to west Chira Accordingly, the engineering characteristics of desert sand are drawingmore and more ettenti of civil engineer. The of desert sand is the Centre of foundationdesign in bo area. The sand in Taklamakan bo has fine grains with similar diameters, and itsstrength characteristics are not fully are to ordinary sand as well as silty. But its strengthshows some features similar to clay when with some water content. These influence influeoce theexcavation in desert, shallow foundation design on natural ground, and the bearing capaceity ofpile foundation.Based on the strength of the Taklamakan Desert sand, through the strength test ofnon-saturated sample and the static loading tesd of model pile in laborary, the paper studiedthe influence of the strength of desert sand on the design and construction of foundationengineering in Taklamakan.By direct shear for and normal triaxial shear tests of non-saturated desert sand, the parperstudied the effect of water content and dry density on the strength of the non-saturated desert sand, and set up the code of this sand.Based on the plane strain test of non-saturated desertsand slope, the paper analysed the destruction way of the excavaion side during the constructionby means of adding water, and brough forward a formule that calculates the allowable ofexcavation and pile hole. By appyling the strength parameter of non-saturated desert sandacquired by testing the paper calculatal the allowable of pile hole with different different diameters,nd wt the be nd digl-- orthe at wtngthe rile hole ty rare.
