ABSTRACT In this paper, according to the latest specification for steel structure design and construction and the new frame structure cord, the author adopted the finite beam element method for space frame to calculate the structure internal force and presented the semi-rigid way to analysis the results. The first step, taken the a -coefficient, the height, the condition of the load as the variable, use the finite element method to analysis the whole structure and get the structure internal force. Secondly, according to the structure internal force, designed the cross-section of the poles and the volume of the joints. At last, taken the total cost of the space shell as the objective function, used the optimization method with the combination of the direction searching and criteria method to select the cross-section of the poles and the volume of the joints. Besides, if you make some adjustments in the interrelated section of the program, you can use it to work on the other space reticulated structure, so it posses those characteristics of the science, reasonability, safety, reliability and under use. The calculation of the finite element of space single layer shell involves not only many coordinate data of node, but also many information of units for linking these nodes. In order to ensure the correctness of these data, importer needs not only to calculate coordinate data of nodes and information of units, but also to cross-check this data carefully .How to check the correctness of mass original data compactly and expediently is one of the most important problems of the finite element analysis. Graphics has a unique and important function in the aspect of describing and impressing and integrating the engineering sculpt design. Owing to its intuition, visualization and maneuverability, it cannot be replaced by other forms . Visualization is realized from the finite element analysis of the original data and the result data, which is of great practical value engineering. However, with the pre-process and post-process module of the present finite element analysis, this problem cannot be solved satisfactorily. In this paper, in solving the problem in the finite element analysis of space pole structure, a special software system of the finite element analysis of pre-process and post-process of space structure was developed by the author . It uses the VBA to construct drawing directly in AutoCAD environment. It visualizes the original input data and the result data of the finite element analysis. It can generate automatically many drawings, including the model, coding, pole working, joint working drawing and the databook. In addition, the author studied how to realize this whole software system with the Visual Basic programming under windows flat, It has the characteristic of friendly interface and expedient operation.
