When we do experiments, we can not get all of the data of a running fluidized bedsince the measurement technique is limited by reality and doing experiments is quiteexpensive. This make it difficult to know the essence of fluidized beds. In order to viewthe motion behavior of a single particle in a fluidized bed in a reasonable cost, thegas-solid flow in a fluidized bed is modeled by a combined approach of discrete particlemethod (DPM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), in which the motion ofindividual Particles is obtained by solving Newton's second law of motion and gas flowby the Navier-Stokes equation based on the concept of local average. The couplingbetween DPM and CFD is achieved directly by applying the principle of Newton's thirdlaw of motion to the discrete particle and continuum gas which are modeled at differentlength and time scales. Moreover, those given in this paper include the mathematicalmodel and the process figure of DPM program, CFD program and the program thatcouple DPM Program with CFD program. Some results those are quite close to reality are achieved. The proposed model showsits promise of simulating the gas fluidization process or other gas-solid interactionphenomena realistically from a fixed to fully fluidized bed via an incipient fluidizationstage. In use of this paper, further mathematical simulation research of fluidized bed canbe taken more easily.
