DFM is one of the key technologies of the concurrent engineering, whose main idea is that not only the demands of functions and performance but also all the related elements of every phase of product lifetime should be included in consideration in design. Reducing production time and costs is the main objective of DFM. The present researches in this field mainly focus on how to establish the evaluation system of product manufacturability and the design methodologies based on various machining condition constraints. In this thesis, firstly the current achievements and worldwide research of DFM is summarized. Secondly the characteristics of production and design in mould manufacturing and the application of DFM in this field is discussed emphatically, and it is proposed that takes the entire design process as a control object when scheming the DFM application system. Thirdly, we construct an integrated architecture of mould design. Based on which, a framework is presented including the flow control of design, the design data management, the product structure and CAPP etc. Then, the two important sections of the system ? the design process management and the process planning based on delivery time and key equipment are discussed in details, and two implement solutions based on the principle of practicality and universality are designed at the same time. Finally, the development tendency on the design for manufacture is forecasted.
