With the development of society and science, automatization has become an important symbol of modernization. However, many domestic habitus- evaluating departments are still using the old-style stature-meters. This has become the bottleneck of large-scale habitus-evaluating. In this paper the author compares all kinds of stature-meters and analyzes various position-detecting techniques and on the basic of synthesizing the factors of mechanics, somatology and specificity of gymnastic apparatus, the author designs and makes an automatic stature-meter with stabile performance, high accuracy and convenient operation. Controlled by a single-chip microprocessor and applying opto-electronic sensor technique, this system can automatically measure and dynamically digital-display measuring results. In addition, the system adopts a series of software-and-hardware anti-interference measures so as to assure stability of the system. The probational result indicates the correctness and feasibility of the system design. This system passed the authentication of Ministry of Education on Mar,9,2000 and the performance has reached the design demand.
