Recently, water resource is becoming more and more rare, which requires that themeasure precision of water flow should be rather high. In this paper, a high precisionultrasonic flowmeter has been deve1oped, which is a sub-project of Gundhongirrigation area in Shaanxi Supported by the credit of the World Bank.Firstly, the accurate arithmetic about the flow was derived and the weights of theformula were given. Secondly, combining theory with practice, some theoreticanalysis for the develop of the equipment was present. The best driver signal ofultrasonic transducer was described. The method of fiowmeter precision analysis waslisted. Some measurements of improving the precision were proposed. Thirdly, cooperating with the hardware, the singlechip software and microcomputer softwarewere programmed. The singlechip software consists of two section: mainframe andtransmitter. The function of the mainframe section is setting and storing parameters, processing information, controlling keyboard and transmitter, giving an alarm for thefaults, displaying and Printing the information such as fiow and volume, and so on.The function of the transmitter is sending the driver signal and calculating the traveltime of the ultrasonic. The microcomputer software give the users an more friend1yinterface, through which the users can set the parameters, browse and print the reportforms, and etc. From the result of the program, the arithmetic about the flow is accurate, whoseaccuracy is over 0. 1%. From the result of the experiments, the fiowmeter's precision isover 0.5%. Therefore, the design requirement of the flowmeter is satisfied finally.
