In this paper, the E-glass fiber reinforced polyamide 6 (EFRPA6) composite gears are taken as the research objects by adding self-healing microcapsules based on the self-repairing mechanism of microcapsules. The mechanical strength characteristics, noise reduction and prolonging using in life-span are made comparative research through the contrast of the two group gears which are with and without self-healing microcapsules.Pelleting process is made to mix the material of polyamide 6, E-glass fiber, filling and self-healing microcapsules into pellets. The two group gears are prepared by the resin injection process with the pellets, that one group have no self-healing microcapsules and the other group have 3.5 percent self-healing microcapsules.The structure of the injection mold is determined by analyzing the structure form, mold material, and the relevant injection parameters. The assembly drawing is drawn by the structure and then the injection mold is manufacturedThe viscoelastic of plastic gear is analyzed by theoretical formula. The creep deformation, relaxation, energy variation and the relation of the stress-strain are quantitative representation. The representation gives the theoretical foundation for the impact resistance, wear resistance and noise reduction of the composite gears.The three-dimensional space model is built by the plot software of Pro/ENGINEER through parametric design with the process of extrude and cut. The mechanics and modal prosperities are analyzed by the finite element analysis software of ANSYS when the model is imported to the ANSYS. It indicates that the maximum stress slightly gets lower, the maximum drop is 0.31 percent and the natural frequency slightly gets lower, the maximum drop is 3.8 percent through the contrast of the calculation result to the two group gears that without and with microcapsules.The natural frequency, hardness, impact strength, vibration and noise behavior are comparison testing by experimental method with the vibration and noise system of LMS Test.Lab, Rockwell apparatus, impact testing machine, fixed-speed friction tester and noise testing software. The results indicate that the natural frequency, the hardness and impact resistance slightly get lower, with the maximum drop 3.06percent, 3.37 percent and 2.88 percent respectively. The sound pressure level of the material with capsules is lower in all temperature and frequency, and the A weighted sound pressure level is lower 4~5dB than the material without microcapsules.The results of the contrast research indicate that the influence to the mechanics, vibration and noise is little by adding a few microcapsules to the composite gears. The glass fiber reinforced nylon composites with low-content of self-sealing microcapsules has good dispersion and compatibility. The gear surface pitting and crack of fatigue can be healed by microcapsules, so the life of the composite gears can be extended and the cost can be reduced.
