Hydraulic excavator is the major construction machine in the earth moving, excavation and engineering field, and it is widely used in the mechanized construction of energy, transportation, water conservancy, urban construction andmodernized military engineering field. In China's excavator industry, for the long cycle of new product development and the backward design methods, the products are aging seriously and lacking of market competitiveness. The domestic excavator manufacturer bases primarily on experience and analogy approach to design and then through prototype testing to find the problem. However, the application of finite element structural analysis techniques and virtual prototyping technology has provided the powerful tools and means to address these concerns. Working mechanism as one of the most important components, its dynamic characteristics directly affect the excavator's work performance, so its study has an important significance.This paper elaborated about the study status and development trends of hydraulic excavators domestic and overseas. It based on hydraulic excavator design drawings in a large three-dimensional modeling software Pro/E to construct the three-dimensional solid model of working equipment and then used Hypermesh software to net meshing and finally imported into large-scale finite element software ANSYS, to conduct some most dangerous device working conditions of the work equipment with a finite element method and combine with the actual product strength test to verify the analytical results. It raised the improvements on the existing design and enhanced the product design level. Though modal analysis of hydraulic excavator's working equipment, the mode of vibration and frequency which is as references to prevent the resonance can be obtained.Using ADAMS software, this paper did Kinematic and dynamic simulation analysis on hydraulic excavator's working equipment. Through the kinematic analysis, author obtained the basic operating parameters as the maximum digging radius, maximum digging height, maximum digging depth which provides the important parameters for the design.The research and practice of this topic have shown that the computer-aided design, finite element analysis, multi-body dynamics simulation methods are a fast and effective way for large-scale complex mechanical design, which can significantly shorten the product development cycle and reduce product development investment.
